Question about team strategies and line chemistry in franchise mode

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 08:24 AM PDT

    Hey all,

Sorry if this has been asked/discussed before, but I've noticed that updating your strategies in franchise mode doesn't change the coach's scheme, and each individual player's line fit/chemistry is based off of the coach, not what you set as the strategy.

So my question is, what does setting your own team strategy even do? Does it only affect how your team plays when you play the game yourself? Does it affect line chemistry at all?

Be a pro - player returning from injury

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 11:13 AM PDT

I am playing be a pro as a member of the Vancouver Giants. First game of the season, Byram (best player on the team) gets injured. A few games later, he's all healed up, but the coach won't put him back in the lineup. Does anyone know a fix for this bug?

Is there a website/Are there websites where I can see all the Ratings in the game for both Franchise and Ultimate Team like futhead and sofifa for FIFA?

Puck feels bouncier ever since tuner?

    Posted: 31 Oct 2019 10:04 PM PDT

I don't know but ever since that tuner, it feels the puck is just bouncing all over the place and it doesn't feel good nor realistic...

I am aware bumps were added but even without getting bumped, i'm seeing my passes bouncing off my players way more instead of them receiving the pass and I feel the puck control just feels way more flaky. I play hut by the way.

If you get tripped on a breakaway towards an empty net, what happens?

Automatic goal? Penalty shot? Penalty? Nothing? I'm asking about NHL 20.

Adding additional strategies, systems, and create a play to all game modes, online and offline.

    Posted: 31 Oct 2019 06:09 PM PDT

In the sport of hockey there are so many more strategies and systems then the 3-4 we must cycle through and choose from every game, and it's been this way for years, oversimplifying the game in all zones. and delegitimizing the potential hockey IQ of the user, and boxing in the abilities of AI. I would like to see EA truly consult and work with pro hockey experts at incorporating more diverse and competent systems and strats, while revitalizing and bringing back the much adored "create-a-play" option for the user team captain to have options to utilize in game offline and online, even in EASHL club to practice with user team-mates and battle out online. I believe this alone may tremendously increase the overall enjoyment and competency of the game. What are your thoughts?

Also, please improve the effectiveness of North American style, fundamental dump-and-chase forecheck hockey. As well as adding an option for defensemen to chip/sauce the puck "high off the glass" out of the zone and into mid ice (yet not all the way down the ice for icing) to relieve pressure, all the while allowing proper and intelligent line changes. No more AI taking line changes on the rush in the midst of a breakout or breakaway pass!!!

Also would like more options (bring back custom cameras) in the audio visual settings to truly customize and have a legit user friendly experience. Such as change color of puck and allow puck visibility in traffic and when on the boards behind goal line in D-zone. Allow a puck trail if desired. Also allow custom ice color (or simply get rid of outdoor drop in mode and bring back indoor) so as to not blind the user.

I really don't believe for the $80+ most of us spend/have already spent on this game that it's too much to ask, should've happened years ago!!

Dear EA Vancouver, about Quinn Hughes...

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 03:36 AM PDT

...he's a rookie defender. I'm not sure Electronic Arts UI department follow real-life hockey any longer given the presentation of NHL 20, but on-ice he's looking pretty damn special. 10 points in 12 games this season. Wow. What a start.

I'm a miserable old asshole, heck I'm still using a dial-up modem, but with his dynamic two-way play, I would suggest that young Quinn really does fit the image of the "nu-CHEL" or whatever hockey is called by those twitchy kids with deep allowances on the U-Toob and Myspaces or whatever. I guess Hughes could be some kind of Super-Expensive Card in the Ultimate Business thingy you guys keep pimping.

Best thing is, and you'll never believe the coincidence, he plays for the Canucks. That's Vancouver's team! "Is that the team we got the jersey wrong for on launch?" you might ask. Yes! Yes it is! How lucky is that?

Hopefully that means you might be able to get his face in the game now? If not a full scan, maybe send someone down with a camera to the rink? Perhaps we could at least get a bio pic in game rather than having a blank silhouette portrait for a starter in your studio's local team. Heck, copy and paste this in to your texture dictionary for the Canucks portraits. https://www.nhl.com/player/quinn-hughes-8480800

Seriously, as a fan of real hockey and the Canucks, can you please pull your finger out, it's November, and get this issue sorted so I and other players can at least glean some enjoyment out of a full price game that I already have to turn the commentary and scoreboard off and make sure I don't download any of your tuners that overwrite each other contrary to what the game actually says?

    Thanks.

Shouldn't line chemistry be hidden or at least a prediction instead of certain bonus? I'm confused why after Fog of War they didn't make that more dynamic and hidden? Not a rant but closest flair

    Posted: 31 Oct 2019 01:19 PM PDT

So I was watching some franchise mode (haven't bought it yet, leaning towards buying on sale, unsure) and I think the Fog is a cool option. I think it will be expanded on but one thing that confused me, and correct me if I'm wrong here, is chemistry.

I get it is player type dependent and adds a layer of thought that goes into building a team. I love that and understand it. However, player chemistry is lacking the realistic depth of chance/luck plays a role at times.

Obviously keep the base of it where player types are the anchor of it, just like in real life. However, sometimes for whatever reasons players just don't mesh well. At other times, seemingly bad line matches can have crazy chemistry. This is rare-ish of course but a realistic factor. I can see how adding the small chances of lack of chemistry or vice versa could be frustrating to a player who doesn't understand why it isn't working. Making it an option would be ideal.

As far as chemistry goes, make it a predicted chemistry like scouts. 97% chance you'll get a +3 or whatever. This could be tied to personality types, random chance, or whatever.

Also, chemistry builds over time. As far as I know that isn't factored in. Choosing to stick with a line and hoping to build chemistry vs. making a trade is a realistic dilemma. Chemistry development would mirror rookies in the sense that it could grow quite well, poorly, quickly, slowly, etc. Adding a chemistry growth line potential could be cool too. Of course, just like prospects, it might be wrong even if high but that's rare.

It could add some depth to design and be a nice addition to the foundation of Fog of War.
