Competitive/Pro Esport Gameplay Mode? Does it already exist?

    Posted: 18 Feb 2020 11:59 AM PST

So, i've started playing HUT and gotten into how it's fairly competitive/balanced with rosters/player overalls and rankings, but find a few things really insane with it compared to major e-sports games.

    Essentialy there's 2 main issues:
    1. eashl and hut carry a lot of legacies from the "lean in" to hockey simulation that ea's tried to do with NHL offline since day with overly complicated and obstructed stat libraries withoften intangible impacts on gameplay.

    1. There's no "controlled playing field game setting" for the competitive that gives all players equal access to the same teams/builds every game. (EA SHL has moved closer to this with the limited player builds, but still adds traits/attributes that need to be unlocked through gamesplayed/rewards, Hut is completely wide open).

In regards to 1: You would never see this level of obscurity over how each stat/ability is impacting the game in a competitive game like LoL, HoN, or Dota. I get some of it is phsyics engine but there are some glaring/obvious RNG's and the lack of clear communication around which stats are influencing them and which what thresholds/sweet spots are needed is wild.

In regard to 2: it looks like EA took a half assed crack at this with Draft Champions but i don't think they really nailed the format nor gave it the push/appeal it needed to have.

For "high level" or "pro circuit" for EANHL, does a balanced/flat game setup exist? If ea looked into building something like this would you play it (something with maybe stripped down stats for each player and smaller line sets(pick 6 F 4D 1G for example, or pre-baked teams/builds you're able to select)? I just have a lot of trouble envisioning a real competitive style EANHL game out of the existing game modes, it seems to miss a lot of the basic req's (level playing fields, re searchable stats/builds/meta)....?

    Looking for tips

    Posted: 18 Feb 2020 07:36 AM PST

So, I started a new job that does a bi-monthly NHL20 tournament and I've really set my eyes on that free pizza for the winner.

Knowing very little about NHL or ice hockey in general, where would be a good place to read up on strategies and mechanics?

Need good slider ideas for my playstyle

    Posted: 17 Feb 2020 11:23 PM PST

I play on Franchise Mode and have Pro difficulty selected.

My problem with the difficulty and "competative" mode is that my goalie gives up way too many goals, the ai is better than me by a longshot, and the ai goalie is a brick wall.

I tweaked with the sliders and I think I messed up badly. Originally I was winning 7-1 games (that got boring) and now after tweaking its 6-6 games usually.

I want a slider setup where the game can be 2-1 or 4-2 or something. I want it to be based on skill and fairness. I like faster gameplay and my goalies actually blocking as well as the other teams goalie letting in shots.

Anyone have any links to good sliders that fit what I am looking for? Any suggestions? I was intrigued by this one

Can underage free agents get drafted?

    Posted: 17 Feb 2020 10:17 PM PST

I've been making future prospects as I get ready to start a franchise mode, and I made a prospect who isn't old enough to be added to a CHL team. If I leave him on the free agents list will he eventually be draft eligible in his draft year?

Should I buy NHL 20 at this point?

    Posted: 17 Feb 2020 08:59 PM PST

As the title says, not sure if I should get NHL 20, seeing a lot of mixed reviews. Seems like I should go with either 19 or 20 but I thought I would ask here. Should I perhaps go further back to 16 or 17? Just trying to dabble in franchise to get a hockey fix, not a very serious player. I heard 18 is extremely bad though and that I should stay away from that one at all costs. Also I'm not a huge hockey fan, but I do think current rosters would be pretty cool to have, I guess I can do roster updates. Anyway, your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

    Expansion Team Question.

    Posted: 17 Feb 2020 04:34 PM PST

Stoned query here, when you guys made your expansion teams was there a particular team you took the most players from? Be it you're a fan or are just building a team core.

For me it was the maple leafs. I took Hyman in the expansion draft and traded burns who I also got in the draft for kerfoot, kapanen, and barrie.

    Not a hockey expert

    Posted: 17 Feb 2020 06:16 PM PST

Hey buds I'm no hockey expert but I just got done watching mystery alaska and I want to be. I've been upsetting a lot of teammates with my play lately but non of it would exactly be considered constructive criticism so I'm not sure what I need to be fixing. Any advice how I should be playing an enforcing defender in eashl? Where should I position myself and what should I be doing when my teammates have the puck? Also any other advice on how to be a good defender would be appreciated

    Franchise Mode Woes

    Posted: 17 Feb 2020 05:50 PM PST

I'm in 2040 and every franchise is cash strapped. Usually I'll RFA a player to get picks back but last season and this I got no picks. Dudes are making 17 million. I have 7 players making over 10 million.

It sucks because I don't want to finish it out if this is how it goes.

    2020 draft update?

    Posted: 17 Feb 2020 02:42 PM PST

I'm just wondering if EA has updated prospect ratings for the 2020 draft since the game was released. Is this something they ever do? Haben't played in a while and getting the itch, but I usually acquire picks for the 2nd year during a tear down because Ea never rates 'real' players in year 1 as highly as they probably should.
