How I Made EANHL BAP and Franchise Mode Fun Again Posted: 10 Apr 2020 11:31 AM PDT We all know BAP and Franchise mode are soulless game modes with no more than "Be A Pro completed" at the end of 20 seasons of grinding. There's no story that you can carve out for your players or organization. That is, unless you make one up yourself. Allow me to show you how I managed to make BAP and Franchise mode one of the most immersive setups in a long time. First for Franchise mode I needed a team. I decided on having my team based out of Seattle because of the huge hockey market there. I asked myself, "what subject has the most logos for it?" And I discovered that there were two snake logos. "Seattle Snakes" sounds bland and uninteresting. Then I got thinking of what snakes are like and what they have, and I got an idea - Venom! I love the Marvel character Venom because of its badassery and that's what my team is all about. It has a nice ring to it too - Seattle Venom. The color scheme had to be badass too, so in homage to the Marvel character the main color would be black. And due to the "Venom" part, I needed a color that made the jersey pop and represented toxicity, so I chose the radioactive neon green. This is the final result: https://imgur.com/usxPnQh Now I had my branding, but I needed an actual team. What makes a good hockey team? Leadership, scoring, and goaltending. For the first category, that means a captain, someone who will look out for and protect the rest of the team and also lead them in a clear direction. Who protects better than an enforcer, and who leads better than Zdeno Chara? This is where I began to build my player. Allow me to introduce you to Hudson Brewer, a 6'9, 250 lb enforcer defenseman with a wicked slap shot. He's 18 at the start of the Franchise or BAP mode so he'd be drafted in the same year that your mode starts, 81 OVR out of the draft. He's from Boston and raised on the gritty play that the Bruins used to win the Cup in 2011. A shut down defenseman who stares you down with his yellow eyes as he lines you up for a crushing check, #33 is the soon to be Seattle Venom captain once he grows up. Heavily based on Zdeno Chara, this will be our staple leader. https://imgur.com/bVQdPoi For the second category, scoring, we have a kid with the best wrist shot on any team he played for, Thomas Rakos. He grew up on the same street as Brewer, and therefore played for the same junior teams all the way from Mini-Mites to Team USA. He's 16 at the start of the Franchise or BAP so it'll be three years until you see him in the show. He's fast, really fast, and represents the style that the current NHL is moving towards - flashy, fast, and skilled. Brewer has always had his back so he's been allowed to fly through players untouched his whole career because the opposition was too afraid to touch him, which is good because he's somewhat small, only 6'1 and 188 lbs. He's 82 OVR out of the draft. His personality is confident but reserved, somewhat like Connor McDavid. This will be our team's leading scorer. https://imgur.com/4VgQ2KK Now onto the third category, that being goaltending, we have Michael Hasek, Dominik Hasek's son (the real Micheal Hasek is 30 years old and doesn't play hockey, but for the sake of the story he's a 17 year old goalie). Following in his father's footsteps, Michael perfectly blends together the modern goalie techniques and the Dominator's explosive style of play. He also lived just down the road from Brewer and Rakos, and still takes credit for the two having good shots because of all the days they spent in the street playing roller hockey. That's also why he's such a good goalie, he was always allowed to be aggressive because Brewer was watching his back his whole junior career. He's 17 at the start of the Franchise or BAP and 80 OVR out of the draft. This will be our Franchise's goalie. https://imgur.com/HFpxU7C — So now we have our staple players. In Franchise mode I did an expansion draft with the Seattle Venom. If you're lucky you can win the draft lottery each year for the next three years or worst comes to worse you can trade your first round picks and players you got from the expansion for the first overall pick so you can draft all three created players - first Brewer, then Hasek, then Rakos. This is sort of the end of what you can do for Franchise mode, just watching the players grow and interact as you sim along. And if you continue to create stories for the players, the fun can continue. For example, maybe Rakos becomes the NHL leading scorer and all the fame starts to go to his head and he starts ditching Brewer and Hasek to hang with McDavid or Matthews. Maybe he gets too cocky trying to get in highlight reels so he doesn't pass the puck to a wide open Brewer or he tries to dangle in the defensive zone and it ends up in a goal on Hasek. Maybe Hasek starts to feel insecure because he doesn't make highlight reels because Brewer is such a good defender so he doesn't get shots. Then they all have a big fight off ice which leads to the Seattle Venom having a mid season slump because of the lack of chemistry. But in the end they apologize to each other and go on to lift the Stanley Cup, what they had always dreamed of doing together. That's how I like to play Franchise mode, it's much more rewarding than just watching everything unfold. That's what the sport is really about, the stories. Stories like Bobby Ryan and Robin Lehner and PK Subban getting traded from Montreal, any controversy that arises. That's what gets in the news, the story behind the stats. I've always done Franchise mode that way, but only recently have I started doing something differently in BAP. Usually I make a player based on someone else - a playmaking, goodhearted center named Connor Anderson was based off of Patrice Bergeron. Or my goalie BAP based off of Henrik Lundqvist. Recently, though, I made up Jake Brewer - Hudson Brewer's younger brother. I made Jake Brewer a cross between Hudson Brewer and one of my favorite Bruins players, Jake DeBrusk, hence the name "Jake Brewer". DeBrusk is a grinder (which is essentially a hard-nose enforcer, minus the fighting) and Hudson is an enforcer so the middle ground seems to be an enforcer. I took the averages of their heights and weights and attributes, making a 6'5, 220lbs hockey player. The Brewer Brothers' parents split when they were young, but their parents fell in love over their mutual love of hockey so both brothers ended up playing. Jake's mother moved back to where her parents lived in Edmonton, Alberta, where Jake would watch the WHL's Edmonton Oil Kings play every home game because his mother remarried the team's assistant coach. Jake envied NHL'ers like Donald Brashear, Milan Lucic, and Tom Wilson - those who were typically known as rough, tough, and sometimes even dirty players. He loved to show off. He knew he was bigger than the players around him. He's constantly gnawing on his mouthguard, has the back of his jersey fully tucked, has neon green tape, and has a permanent grin when he plays. His ego is big, his checks are bigger. Now that my BAP is created, I decide to play one year in the WHL so I can further develop his personality, get to know him better. I've started doing fake journal entries after a few games from his perspective. The first entry went like this: "First two games against Red Deer Rebels. Didn't walk into the games expecting physicality, expected the wonder of playing for the guys I always looked up to be more important. But in the end it's the same game. First game, smashed some player into the boards, fought some guy. Got ejected. Second game, this De Wit character starts thinking he's all that. Gives me a good run after I take a shot. Races up the ice on a semi-breakaway and muffs it of course, turns around to me skating full force after the whistle. I give him a little push and he just grins. I was ready to throw the mitts but the pussy just skated away. I got in two fights that game too, both after hammering some guy, neither of the fighters were De Wit. Haven't lost a fight yet. Got an assist the second game. We won both, one 2-3 and the other 3-4. Did some homework on him, he scored once in the two games at some point. I don't know when because I didn't want to become his dentist yet. Jeff De Wit is his name. 21 years old and probably going nowhere but maybe the ECHL. We play Red Deer again on Oct. 18, the day after my birthday. What a good present!" — All of this backstory, all of this character building, it seems like a lot of work and a lot to keep track of, but it's how I make the game so much more fun. This level of story making I haven't started until just recently but it's totally worth it. The journal entries force me to consider how he would react to things and in turn determine his personality based on his past. In the future maybe he'll want to get into contact with his brother more, or maybe if his brother is more successful then him, maybe he'll be a rival. — This style of play is not for everyone, but maybe it has inspired someone to do the same, maybe I've encouraged someone to reinvent the game for themselves or sparked a passion in them. Or maybe, nobody will read this and I'd have spent the last hour and a half explaining something that is only entertaining to myself. If you actually read all of this, type "Jake from Statefarm" and it'll make my day haha [link] [comments] |
Should I have received my Squad Battle rewards yet? Posted: 10 Apr 2020 11:30 AM PDT Been almost a full day since the season (or whatever it's called) ended. Finished Pro 1 (i hope) or Pro 2, but didn't receive any packs or coins when I logged in last night, only a free pack. Does it usually take this long or did it glitch because it's my first week playing the game? Is there someone I can talk to about this? [link] [comments] |
Does anyone use a control set up other than skill stick? Posted: 10 Apr 2020 11:07 AM PDT I'm trying to get my brother into the game, he's a big FIFA guy and he can't comprehend the not pressing a button to shoot thing. Would he just be miserable online if he played on hybrid? Or is it doable? [link] [comments] |

Some Franchise Mode help please folks! Posted: 10 Apr 2020 06:54 AM PDT Essentially I have fallen in love with hockey over the past 2 years and since my local team (Belfast Giants) have made the CHL this past year they are in the NHL'20 game. My question is, is it possible to start franchise mode and bring the Giants into franchise? I've tried to create the team and bring it in but can't get the logos in the creation mode to create the team. Any help would be great folks! Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Franchise Mode freezing/unresponsive Posted: 10 Apr 2020 06:52 AM PDT I started a new Franchise Mode last night but when I go into Edit Lines, it constantly freezes up. Anyone else having this problem? My system and game are all updated. Are there any ways to fix it? Edit: So I just turned off my internet connection on the PS4. It actually worked. I was able to edit lines without it freezing up. Problem solved. [link] [comments] |

How to turn a fairly good game into a trash fire: 30 for 30 NHL 20 Posted: 10 Apr 2020 10:18 AM PDT |
I have bought every nhl game since 07, but i shouldve skipped this year of all years Posted: 10 Apr 2020 01:17 AM PDT Every year i look forward to the nhl games. Im not a huge gamer. I guess I'm a casual gamer. Honestly i mostly just play sports games. I used to be addicted to the nhl games starting with NHL 07 on xbox 360. Well as the years goes on...the spark isnt the same as it used to be. I remember i used to play 30 online versus games in a row, but now its a struggle playing a few games in a day. I bought the game in September when it first dropped, but didnt really play it much which is unusual. I just started playing again. I just like playing online versus and these games take longer than they used to back in the day. Also i know im late, but man the commentary is really bad. I dont even know who this James guy is lol but he is boring as hell. Might just mute it and put music on instead. Also the score board on the bottom is terrible. I dont know why they try to fix things that arent broken in the first place. I know those two things probably get a lot of complaints. I just havent gave the game much play time so i didnt know how bad some of it really is. Hopefully they do something different for nhl 21. Otherwise 20 might be the last one for a while which is crazy cause of how die hard of a fan i am with nhl. The things im complaining about isnt even that serious lol, but it down grades the games from previous years. [link] [comments] |
Anyone else think it would be cool if equipment impacted stats? Posted: 09 Apr 2020 06:37 PM PDT Hey guys, I think most anyone that has played hockey understands how the gear you use impacts how you play. Between your stick's curve/flex/kick point and lie, down to your skate model/size/radius and hollow, there's a ton of different elements of your gear that a player can tinker with to change their game. I think incorporating this into the game, similar to the tuning of a car in a racing simulator, would be a fun way of adding some realism to the game. As an example, if you choose to use a 75 flex stick, your wrist shot gets a +2 rating and your slap shot gets a -2. It could really go 100 ways from there depending on your full set up. Yes I know, this is asking something of EA which maybe I'm a fool for but figured it would be at least worth throwing out into the universe. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 09 Apr 2020 04:48 PM PDT So I don't usually play much threes since I like 6v6 drop in way more. I've noticed that I keep getting body checked when I'm nowhere near the puck. Like I spend more than half of a match on the ice. Is there no interference call in the mode? [link] [comments] |
