What is up with this game!? SCALING. Dear EA, 60 feet is the number.

    Posted: 19 Nov 2020 08:02 AM PST

I just wanted to point out one huge problem in this game that in turn is causing several other issues.

Scaling - this is a serious problem I don't think most people realize that is mucking up gameplay. Because the gameplay itself isn't that bad-subjectively. I want to also point out this problem seems worse in CHEL.

I'm sure most hockey fans know that between the blue line and goal line is 60 feet, in real life. Take a good hard look at this game next time you play and tell me what you see there, spoiler, it aint 60 feet. 40-45 feet at best. If you factor each player is average of 6 feet tall, you would need 10 of those guys laying down head to toe to connect blue line to goal line. (I wont even get started on the width of the ice)

The obvious issue this causes is space, a serious lack of space is on the ice which is causing a complete lack of game FLOW. The amount of turnovers and incomplete passes in this game is absolutely horrendous. The amount of stoppage whistles from offsides, because the space is too tight, is horrendous. The amount of whistles from goalie freezes, because all 10 skaters can be in front of the net within 2 seconds, is HORRENDOUS. The amount of tripping penalties in this game because your stick covers 1/3 of the ice, is fucking HORRENDOUS.

The scaling is so poor on this game it has completely ruined the fun factor in this game, its just a game of broken passes, constant whistles, nonstop turnovers, followed by an occasional completely unfulfilling goal. The lack of flow makes this game feel like a chess match, last time I checked hockey and chess had almost zero similarities.

EA PLEASE FIX THIS SCALING ISSUE - its fucking serious.

The gameplay in this game is the worst it’s been in years

    Posted: 19 Nov 2020 12:15 PM PST

Let me preface this by saying i don't like shitting on this game because it feels like beating a dead horse. I still buy them and i still play them so i obviously am not that unhappy with the games.

    However

This year, the gameplay (combined with the almost gamebreaking glitches) is had to defend

The absolutely broken penalties in offline play (I have penalties set to 1/4 and have manually turned down every penalty slider) and yet i still have games where combined between myself and the Ai there are 10+ penalties a game.

The cross crease goals both online and offline are ridiculous. It has always been an issue but it seems even worse in this years game than in the past

The odd angle goals the CPU are able to score make me wonder if the goalies are programmed as shooter tutors

Some of the goalie animations that are performed way too soon before a shot is taken leaves the goalie just sitting there to be scored on

Overall pretty disappointed with this years game, considering how much they hyped up BAP, the AI changes and gameplay tweaks. Mostly my fault for believing then and buying the game, but these are just a few thoughts

    I did the math.

NHL 20 was released on September 13, 2019.

NHL 21 was released on October 16, 2020.

From Friday, September 13th 2019 to October 16th 2020, there are:

    • 400 days
    • 275 working days
    • 114 weekend days
    • 11 public holidays

Assuming a 7 hour work day on average (8 hours less 1 hour of lunch/break), the average EA employee will put in 1,925 hours of work in a year. Let's discount that by 20% due to COVID-19 reality - we are left with 1,540 hours. Now, we all know there's always some crunch to meet some deadlines. So let's assume the final 1.5 months of the project requires a 10% additional work, so let's add an extra 150 hours. We are left with 1,690 hours (nice).

EA Vancouver has about 1,300 employees. I won't separate developer hours from support department hours, because all employees represent a resource (since their salary represents a budgeted cost which can be allocated to different projects).

The two major games they focus on annually is FIFA and NHL. We know FIFA is the big dawg, so let's just be conservative and assume 20% of resources go to NHL and 80% towards FIFA. We assume 260 employees spent 1,690 hours each contributing to the EA NHL series, which gives us a total of 439,400 hours total contributed to this project.

Now, can someone please explain to me what the fuck these guys have done with this 440,000 hours? Because it definitely didn't go into the new BAP mode, neither to upgrade the graphics, nor change any of the menus or UI, barely any changes in the customization options.

My personal guess is they spent 10 hours tweaking the gameplay settings and the remaining 439,390 hours were spent smoking some sweet legal weed so they can just zone out and ignore the annual feedback their loyal player base gives them.

I seriously can't believe (but can cause it's EA) that after all this "revamp" for BAP we still have the jersey number glitch. I know it may not bother some but for me and my OCD it's a nightmare 😅😂 So please EA, It can easily be fixed with one single patch...

Random ovr decrease in franchise mode?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2020 07:18 AM PST

Had a player at 88 and another at 85 on the first game of the season. Played the game then they both decrease by 3 ovr points to 85 and 82. They both lose a bunch of "natural growth."

Anyone know why this happened? No injuries or anything. Newer to franchise mode

Best way to get to know the league?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 02:46 PM PST

So I picked up NHL 21 and I'm having a fun time in Be A Pro, but when I get bored of actually playing and want to do more of the business stuff, Franchise Mode seems great. The problem is, I haven't followed hockey in a few seasons, so I don't really know how to plan moves like trades and free agency, because I'm not entirely positive what these guys are worth. What would be the easiest way to familiarize myself with the players in the NHL at the moment
