I'm just a lowly single player who wants a better sim. DAE, yearn for these things to be addressed? Posted: 28 Dec 2020 12:05 PM PST I'm an offline player. I've been playing this game since the series came out (every other year since 94. Every year after 2008). I'm good. Not great, good. When I do jump into an online game, I'm the guy who is a miraculous defender, but can't finish against the higher end players. And there's a reason for this, I get more enjoyment playing the game on SuperStar because it forces me to read the plays/animations. Introduce a human element and that's thrown into chaos. I'm aware the game is no longer for me. It's for the online crowd. But with the introduction of some welcome new-animations and AI additions, gaps that have been gaps since 08 are only getting wider. At it's heart, it should always be a strong hockey sim playing against the CPU, right? Fixing AI/animation/mechanic gaps not only enriches single player games, but goes a long way in addressing some of the online woes. The board play has to be completely gutted. As the AI has gotten smarter, board-pin has gotten more and more prevalent but the actual mechanics are still as simplistic as they were when first introduced. Size/attributes don't appear to matter much (or enough, at least). It's almost an automatic on the higher difficulties that the puck is going to go the other way -- no matter the situation. An introduction of skill is sorely needed here. Loose puck pick-ups. The introduction of some of the new puck pick-up animations were very welcome, but still doesn't address the single most frustrating aspects of this game. Loose puck battles are nonsense. Absolute fucking nonsense. The CPU is capable of contorting to pick-up pucks in ways that are near impossible for a user when on a reaction time scale. More animations are needed (skate kicks, FFS) and the CPU needs toned down off of god mode. Loose puck battles should be 50/50, not 90/10. Lack of true fine controls. Similar to puck pick-ups, the CPU has a level of control not accomplishable by a human. And player ratings don't matter enough. If a CPU stick is anywhere in the vicinity of an up-pass, it's intercepted. Have time and think you can thread a pass in traffic? All luck. Meanwhile the CPU will zip passes into a crowd of three players. I'm OK with this being a play that exists. It does in the NHL. Can we please make it so that when the passer has a high/rating + time and space, there's an actual mechanic to support this level of precision? When taking a shot, if you hold/telegraph the shot in one spot, and quickly move to a different spot, it's a way to sometimes get the goalie to cheat. We need that for passing. And we need animations to support players kicking/catching passes in new ways. Either that, or gut the CPU passing completely to make it even. Also, please eradicate the fucking animation where a receptor chooses to stop all momentum and catch flat footed for no-reason. The only time that play happens is in-front of the net or at the point. Having it happen on the rush is a bug. Momentum/Endurance. I typically play Squad Battles on SuperStar unless there's an aggression boost on. The increases in big hit animations causes large amounts of chaos for Player teammate AI, and pass interceptions shoot through the roof. I think this is what most people are experiencing when they reference 'ice-tilt'. At it's core, it's all about space, which is fine...but again, the mechanic doesn't work the same way for the player. If you play the dump game, you can get frequent animations where you're trucking 2-3 CPU players behind the net and the CPU still ends up making the play to get the puck out. The ONLY way to create consistent space as a human player is speed. I don't think the answer here is to just even the mechanic and call it done. This NHL franchise is long overdue for a momentum mechanic that ties directly with endurance/energy. The CPU energy recovery rate is fucking joke. You can hem a team in their zone for two minutes and come out with lower energy than the CPU defending. BIG HITs matter very little in the way of energy. If you set up to run a lot of rebound plays/generate chaos, it doesn't matter. The CPU remains poised. Just make it like hockey. Big hits, hemmed zone time, shot smattering are plays that shift momentum in games. Give us a meter. Give us a mechanic so that when the CPU goes on one of its tears, it doesn't feel like bullshit. More Attribute types. I feel as though we're missing important attributes on the defenseive side of the game, as well as sub categories of offensive awareness. My expectation would be that someone who is 90+ offensive awareness has animations/patterns that respond differently than a grinder. Additionally, it's time to embrace the fact that some NHLers are FAR FAR FAR better defenders than others. If I've positioned Alex Pietrangelo in line with the puck and hit poke check, he should have a MUCH lower chance of receiving a penalty than a journeyman. We should also acknowledge that some players are far more aggressive/rough and tumble. I would love to see my CPU teammates stay body to body/physical with who they're covering away from the puck. It's a small change that enriches the game. It's preposterous that Patrick Laine plays the same as Ryan O Reilly on the defensive side of the puck. AI/Adjustments. If you create more mechanics in the areas that the CPU 'exploits' on the higher degree difficulties, I think you create the necessary room to up-the-ante when it comes to the CPU AI anticipating plays like the cross crease. It feels like they leave in these exploits to keep the game balanced. I agree with everyone that some plays have become egregious, but I think overall...this is a simple fix that's just dependent on a lot of what's referenced above. Lastly, I understand the financials here. This HAS to be an iterative release due to it releasing every year. And while it's a big AAA title, it's not a mega-title like FIFA/Madden. That said, I'm very much crossing my fingers that we'll see these items addressed due to the new-system hop. V1 of these mechanics need to happen so that the next 5-year's worth of iterative releases can get close to perfecting. [link] [comments] |
Be A Pro Position and Archetype Posted: 28 Dec 2020 11:38 AM PST Wanting to start a be a pro career but am torn between positions and archetypes and what route to go. Which positions and what archetypes have you guys had the most fun with this year and what would you recommend? [link] [comments] |
Does it make sense to play Franchise for me ? Posted: 28 Dec 2020 11:37 AM PST I have NHL 20 for Xbox One. Have not played NHL for almost 10 years, now I am coming back, but still will have not more than some 2 hours per week to play. I would like to play Franchise, but does it make sense with such little time ? Also I do not enjoy deeper management / involvment, like coaching and scouting. Basically I only want to play games, make trades, and try to make lines with good chemistry. Thanks for advice [link] [comments] |

Removing Pass/Shot/Offside previews NHL 21 Posted: 28 Dec 2020 03:41 AM PST Is there a way to remove all of the previews that pop up when you have the puck such as the pass previews, shot previews, and the offensive zone lighting up when an Offside could occur? Looking for more of a standard to tv like approach to game play. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Bought on Sale, here are my brief thoughts. Posted: 27 Dec 2020 09:05 PM PST Bought this game last night on sale (no way I'm paying 59.99 for this), and it's okay. While it's basically a copy of last years game, I do like how they do trade deadline day in franchise mode, much more engaging this time around. I also like the small modifications they made in the create team where the letters can have a border pattern around them. It's a nice touch but still thousands of miles from even being able to breath on NBA 2K18 (no, that is not a type), mainly because it doesn't have a place where users can upload their designs and logos and whatnot like 2K and MLB the Show have. Game play feels basically the same. Though, I will say the speed of the gameplay... LOL! It's like everyone is on every amphetamine you can dream of. Even 1/6 felt too fast for me (though, I'm 33 and have never had the quickest reactions)... though 0/6 feels just a bit too slow. One hysterical thing: I legit cracked up when I saw the cap rose from 81.5 to 95.390 million dollars from the current season to the next. Obviously, it's something (among many things) they need to fix... but damn is was it a good laugh. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Dec 2020 04:49 PM PST Just played someone in online versus, outshot then 27-9, lost to the 8-9 in OT. You can do the math on how many saves my goalies(switched after 5 or 6th goal) made. Every goal he scored was cross crease, one timer. On one my guy AI defender literally standing in front of the shooter and the stick physically went thru the defender. [link] [comments] |

Dumb Playstyle wins you games. Posted: 28 Dec 2020 02:11 AM PST People who constantly play like douchebags and go for glitch goals and cross crease every fucking time, how do you have fun doing so? It is not like youre going for leaderboards. This game is garbage and will continue to be garbage while these asswipes ruin the game for casual players. I can guarantee that if any of you glitchy playstyle players play me 1v1 and they play realistically and no cheese BS, I would win 10 times out of 9. [link] [comments] |
Ea should unlock all the national team apparel for clubs. Posted: 27 Dec 2020 07:54 PM PST Let us rep our countries during the world juniors. My club wanted to wear the Canada jerseys but we don't have them or the logo unlocked. [link] [comments] |
