If a competitor came along, they could put EA out of the hockey video game business easily Posted: 02 Mar 2021 11:10 AM PST It's no secret that hockey fans are completely and utterly frustrated with the games EA puts out every year. EA knows that no matter how bad their game is, we will still pay $80 because the sport of hockey is the best in the world and I wanna play a hockey video game. EA has no competition, they have essentially a monopoly over the hockey video game market. The lack of competitors prevents EA from feeling the pressure to improve. They could release the same game every year and people will still buy it because we have no other option. If another game developer tried to tap into the hockey video game market, they couldn't afford to miss. But I don't think it would be hard to make a better game than EA does. I've never developed a game, but looking from an outside perspective, there's SO MUCH that could go into one game that could completely shift all hockey fans away from EA's games. The only issue I could imagine would be copyright, because EA will be the first to tell you that they do not have a monopoly over NHLPA and NHL name rights, but I don't know how the logistics of everything else works. If a new developer came to town, made an NHL game, would they be able to use similar controls? If yes, then I don't see what the problem is. The skill stick is obviously the thing that sunk 2K and NHL Faceoff, but if another developer could use a clone of the skill stick under a different name, and implement a digital card came similar to HUT, they could bring a huge majority of the fan base to their game. If a game kept EAs controls, a mode like HUT, implemented a better GM mode, a story mode in place of be a pro, and just listened to the problems of the community (unlike EA) it could potentially be a very high selling game that could give a spark to the hockey video game market. EA is just embarrassing with their lack of change and lack of care in what the community had to say about their game. They clearly do a lot right, but it's time for a change. The cons outweigh the pros at this point and it's really sad to see such an amazing sport be represented by such a shitty franchise. EA does not care, and we need someone who DOES care to make a new and improved NHL game, so hockey fans can once again enjoy what they're playing. [link] [comments] |
What are your thoughts on a player loyalty/popularity mechanic? Posted: 01 Mar 2021 01:18 PM PST This would probably work best in Owner Mode since you can gage fan happiness, but what if each player had a "Loyalty" or "Popularity" attribute, potentially incorporated into their character. I haven't played owner mode much but it could also boost your finances with sales of their merch. Alternatively it could be like morale when it comes to signings, you'd have that realism aspect without the plethora of growth bugs. It could dial it down a little so you stop getting players like Ovechkin or Rask leaving for free-agency as often, which is unrealistic, but for older players the longer they've stuck with a team, and depending on their popularity it could drive up/down asking prices (like no Jumbo, sorry but you aren't getting 2.5m a year at 43 lmao) Obviously it wouldn't be 100% (see Chara/Thornton ect) who leave, but it could be a significant factor that incorporates fans into signings and stuff. Note I don't really play Owner mode so it'd be cool if it didn't need to be a part of that, but could instead just factor in on salaries. [link] [comments] |
Early Favorite for Cover Athlete?- NHL 22 Posted: 02 Mar 2021 10:43 AM PST I thought Ovi was a bit of a surprise selection this past season but it makes sense due to his popularity and the all new Be A Pro overhaul. Who's the favorite this season to be the cover athlete? Here are my rankings 1) David Pastrnak (Boston Bruins)- he's one of the most marketable hockey players in the world today and has the game to back it up. Plays for a popular team as well. 2) Nathan Mackinnon (Colorado Avalanche)- I was kind of surprised because I thought he'd be the NHL 21 cover boy. 3) Connor McDavid (Edmonton Oilers)- I know all of us want to see new cover athletes, but would you really be shocked if he was the cover boy again? 4) Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton Oilers)- it could be his cover this year, for sure Anybody else you guys think it could be? Remember, this is gonna be their first release on next gen so I think they may wanna choose someone special. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Duo cover of McDavid and Draisaitl either. Does coach impact RFAs not wanting extension Posted: 01 Mar 2021 07:35 PM PST So I am doing a GM mode with the Sens. We have won 4 of the last 5 cups. I am close to the cap as you can imagine (Stutzle, Tkachuk, Chabot, Brannstrom, Guenther, Holtz, and Samsonov's contracts aren't cheap). My younger RFAs are never interested in extensions and are always wanting $6-8 million no matter what. They could be 81 overall and want $7.6 million for 5 years but when I move down to 1 year they only go down $200k in asking price. Then they'll never jump and want the same contract the next year. Obviously, I'm never gonna give them that much so I end up just qualifying them. Note: MORALE IS OFF. I noticed that my head coach is unfavored on most of the guys not wanting extensions. But morale shouldn't play a role so feelings on the coach shouldn't impact weather they want sign? Am I right in saying that? If so, Is there a loophole where I can demote my head coach to assistant and promote one of the more favored assistant or associate coaches (Mine is currently Sidney Crosby) to head coach before the draft and the players will want extensions? Does that work? I would just switch the roles back come pre-season. (I know that would be 100% cheese but this is the best team/ sickest dynasty I have built since NHL 14 and want to keep the band together as long as I can). [link] [comments] |

I'm fairly new to hockey as a sport so I'm not sure if this is just something that happens? Any help is appreciated. Edit : now I cant play a single game in the AHL [link] [comments] |
Online pass assist at -1 and I am unable to change it Posted: 01 Mar 2021 09:16 PM PST So I had a rough night of hockey and decided to check my online pass assist. It's set to "-1" and I am unable to change it. Has anyone had this before? [link] [comments] |
Coming back from 13, trying to figure out if this mode is in 21 Posted: 01 Mar 2021 05:14 PM PST I'm trying to figure out if this mode exists in NHL 21, or some version of it. A friend and I made our own custom players, had a team with a custom name (though I think it was just a lightly customized Wild team), and we would play against other teams online. You were stuck to that one custom player. No line changes or anything like that happened. We went 2-100 before we quit, and even though it was torture we still loved it. I thought it was the preferred online mode. I'm digging through these menus and I've created a player in two different areas now, but I can't seem to find this mode. Can anybody point me in the right direction, or at least confirm that it doesn't exist? I feel like an old man, but damn there is just so much junk packed in these menus. [link] [comments] |
