    However, a lot of effort went into making this post, and all of the news are still relevant, so I still decided to go ahead and share this with you.

    Hello, people. I have decided to create this thread in order for people to easily access the news and rumors for EA Sports' upcoming NHL22 game. Please, don't hesitate to post any new pieces of info down in the comments so I can add them on to the list and give you credit.

    All the tweets have an imgur mirror in order to preserve the tweet and not lose it (in case it gets deleted)

    What is known so far?

    • NHL22 "Closed Technical Test" sign up officially announced. [Tweet]
    • Confirmed old-gen and new-gen releases. However, no mention of PC. [imgur]
    • According to a portfolio by one of the Software Engineers at EA Sports, NHL22 is said to be moving to a frostbite engine. Once this has surfaced on the internet, the mentions of NHL22 and Frostbite have been quickly removed. [imgur]
    • Sean Ramjagsingh (EXEC producer and GM of EA SPORTS NHL, UFC, and BASEBALL) has today officially confirmed that NHL22 is in fact going to happen this year (Just good to know that it's not abandoned!) Also, I would recommend viewing his tweets and replies for some extra content. We know it's a real account because it is followed by the official EA SPORTS NHL twitter account. [Tweet | imgur]
    • If NHL22 is to follow the same pattern as FIFA22, then there will be no cross-platform play. Next-gen consoles can only play the same next-gen console. Same for old gen.
    • Multiple tweets were by an account that shares database leaks of the PS store, stating that PS4 Beta version of NHL has surfaced on the database. Also weighs 27.9GB. [Tweet | imgur]
    • The same account made a tweet recently saying that an Alpha version of NHL22 for PS5 has been spotted. Size is 53GB [Tweet | [imgur]
    • From EA earnings publication, we can see that NHL22 is still scheduled for Q3, alongside BF2042. with a timeframe from OCT 2nd - DEC 31st. Note that BF2042 is set to release OCT 22nd. [Tweet | Earnings PDF file link. NHL22 release is on page 11]
    • NHL22 has already got an age rating in Australia [Link] - No results for ESRB, or PEGI.
    • EASPORTS NHL21 Community Manager has tweeted "soon." hinting on NHL22 news very soon [Tweet | imgur]
    • Still no information on this year's cover athlete.
    • And, of course, no need to speculate that the Seattle Kraken team will be making its appearance in the new NHL title.

    Some concerns

    This section is dedicated to some concerns about NHL22. I would be more than happy to update this section with your concerns as well. Just let me know in the comments.

    First one being the frostbite engine. Since it has been confirmed that PS5 and Xbox X/S releases will happen, I strongly believe that NHL22 is going to be making its port to frostbite. This has to happen, right? NHL is the only sports game by EA that still runs the ignite engine. Fifa made its jump on Fifa17, madden made its jump on NFL18, UFC did with its new release, and I'm sure if NBA Live is to come back, it will also be on the new engine. Why is this a concern? Well, according to EA Developers, they have been saying for years that frostbite was developed for Battlefield titles - in other words, FPS games, not sports games. However, FIFA and NFL teams have managed to make it work, so NHL will also, correct?

    • Don't get me wrong, ignite engine is so outdated, that it actually does look like we are being fed the same old game every year. I am all for the jump to a new engine. The issue here is that this might be brand new technology for NHL team, and with the whole pandemic one would doubt that they have received enough training for frostbite from other EA developer teams. I guess, this is what they have announced the new closed technical test for.

    This nicely brings me to my next point - potential lack of work done developing new features during the pandemic because of some people being absent from workplaces. However, I am sure that since it's their job, they would have done it well enough. And judging by the fact we have had zero information so far, they must have been busy working on the new game (engine port, for example.)

    Lack of cross-platform multiplayer. Now, this is a shady area. We know that if we were to follow Fifa's footsteps and receive no cross-platform (even with next-gen, same family!!!), there is a high chance that NHL multiplayer might not even pick up on next-gen Xbox and Playstation. According to their unit sales, 10.1 million units were sold so far. NHL is by far not the most popular sports game, so I doubt that even 40% of the PS5 owners will buy NHL22, or any other NHL title. Same thing goes for Xbox X/S sales of 6.5 million.

    • This could lead to the NHL player base being divided even further. Currently, we cannot sell HUT players cross-platform (PS4 to Xbox One and vice-versa,) which is annoying enough with two different versions of the game, and now we will have FOUR different versions (PS4, PS5, XBOX ONE, XBOX X/S)

    BAP. I exclusively play BAP, and I am concerned that nothing will be done to improve this mode. And here are some things that come to mind:

    • EA, let me participate in international tournaments if my team loses in the playoffs (IIHF takes place in may usually. However, It doesn't even need to be IIHF. Just cover it up as "EA International Cup" or something and no licensing will need to be done!), or Let me retire and become a GM. Let me control my career. Fifa does it, why can't we?
    • Have some fun animations or cutscenes when you are being re-signed by a club or signed to a new one at the end of the season. Literally, just a press conference screen with my ugly ass smiling and holding new/old jersey, or a contract.
    • Give us an option to get rid of this annoying coach interaction that happens 4 times per period. It was fun in the first season, but now, as soon as I see this interaction, I spam X to just get that screen off. Coach, I am your captain, my likeability stats are maxed, and you're still offering me +25 for the first-line-forward score if I assist or score? Give me something else.
    • Or, I remember my first ever game in the NHL, winning it, scoring a hat-trick, and what do I hear from the reporter? "Aside from the result, you have shown good effort" like, what?
    • Another example is the player comparison screen. I am here, 70 quadrillion points at the top of the league, with 77 trillion goals, and, according to the comparison screen, some Emmanuel Ktushkin from Wilds also has the same number of goals as me, but only has 11 points in the league table. And I should probably stop here before this thread turns into "[Thread] BAP Bug Tracker" (Names and points are exaggerated, obv)

    Most likely, there will, once again, be no PC port. I guess the lack of PC player base and potential piracy issues play a big part here. One great thing about PC gaming is that there are so many tools available to be able to modify the game in one way or another. For example, the last PC release was NHL09, and there are plenty of mods out for that game. From custom rosters that you are able to download off the internet to full-on teams and leagues (KHL mod was one of my favorites in NHL09!)

    I, unfortunately, do not play other modes too much, so I cannot express my concerns for them, but let me know if anything else should be added here for other moded.

    What happened to the music in NHL?

    This has probably been asked before but..Why is the music in NHL so unbelievably terrible ? It's so bizarre. I looked back at soundtracks on NHL games back in the day and it's shocking. Used to be good music now it's just garbage.

    I signed a few young 80 overall(or around there) and made a change in my head coach and assistant coach I’d say I did another good job. P.S my 3rd center is my franchise player so trading him is not an option

    So I traded Givani Smith to the Predators for a 7th rounder and Nashville immediately placed him on waivers now it's like nobody wants him 😂
