AITA For not paying for Bowen Bryam's wedding?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 12:10 PM PDT

I (19m) have been playing on the Colorado Avalanche for 3 years (Yes I started at 16, no I didn't have an exception clause).

Seriously though. Why does every conversation basically force you into paying for something outrageous, or being a straight up asshole? Every time I decline to pay for the whole team's ballgame, Byram hits me with the "it's just a hotdog bro, chill out." Me not buying $50 money units of hotdogs is not a 'star player' move. I'm just not willing to be virtually hazed by a benched 20 year old kid.

Secondly, why is he always calling me by his name? My name doesn't even have a 'B' in it. He's always asking me, "Do you want to checkout the boardwalk, Bowen?" like he's a fucking pokemon. And the answer is no, I don't want to go because 100% of the time i'm going to be roped into probably buying the goddamn ferris wheel.

Now, I put up with a lot, because this year's iteration of BaP is at least a step in a good direction. It's not great, but a step. However, when this fourth pairing D-man starts to critique my Calder winning performance by saying I don't block enough shots, get enough takeaways, or score a hat-trick in some arbitrary game - I start to get a little irked.

Now cut to today, I'm walking the concourse and this healthy-scratched plug comes sprinting up to me blabbing on about how it's his "big day" and "he wants me at his wedding." So I'm like sure, "let's go I guess - even though you literally said nothing about this at the boardwalk the other day." And he turns to me with his dead-ass eyes as says "Great! Now there's some things I need you to take care of."

Who the fuck is writing this bullshit? Who thought this was a game-defining conversation to include in the game? On what fucking planet would I pay for my teammates wedding?

Then, after I had to do a skill check to avoid dropping a fat stack, he turned to me and said "oh yeah, I probably shouldn't make guests pay for my wedding. See ya later, Bowen!"

And I still had to pay $50!

TL;DR: Obligatory BaP conversation rant. Bowen Byram speaks like a pokemon, tells me to pay for his wedding. I decline and still have to pay for it. +25 useless teammates points.

    Is there a BAP Guide?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 09:44 AM PDT

So Ive started a BAP career, got drafted and I am now about 6 games into the season with my character. After looking through all the purchasable items and seeing the $100mil island and so on I realized that it will take multiple seasons to get to the point of buying any of the high level items especially when starting off with a 3 year entry contract. To buy all permanent legendary items you'll need $296mil. How the hell am I supposed to do that off of a salary alone?

I was wondering is there any guide out there suggesting where to put your skill points, specialty points and where to put your money in the most efficient way? I understand the fastest way to level up your character is just by playing but it feels like it will take 10+ seasons to start affording any of the larger items. Are there endorsements at some point in the career that pay out big? I was hoping to actually play all the games in a season but it seems like the strat may be to play enough games to lead league in points & goals, sim second half of season until playoffs, play in playoffs, win cup, boost stats with the off ice trainer in off season, rinse repeat.

    What’s the point of rankings?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 09:05 AM PDT

I'm a lowly silver player and I got paired up with guys who were rank 1 elites. Are they more of a vanity type thing? I feel like SBMM isn't a thing in this.

BAP auto re signed to my original team not given a choice?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 08:18 AM PDT

So last night I completed my 3rd season in BAP with the kings and was excited to see what other team (normally the game offers you to re sign or 1 other team to choose from in FA) would offer me.

The window never popped up for which team to pick, and after simming a couple more days and still nothing I went to check my players card and he resigned a 7 year 63 million dollar deal...

    Anyone else get auto resigned?

What is the maximum number of players you can have on Franchise NHL&AHL Rosters when you start a new Franchise Mode?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 12:23 PM PDT

In the past it was 50 and I always try a practice Franchise to see, but it kicked several of my players off my AHL team, few were players who must have had a contract playing on other teams like Ejdsell etc. Thank you!

    Another broken-ass roster update.

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 11:15 PM PDT

So did they forget to put the “request trade” option in the game?

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 08:19 PM PDT

I find it odd that it's no where to be found considering it was advertised in the BaP release trailer and has been in every other game...

Played my first year and was fine with it because they have always denied trade requests in the rookie season anyways. Just got to my second year pre-season and hoped the option would be there, but still nothing. Anyone on year 3 yet who can let me know if it's still not there? Can you only request to be traded as a rental on the final year of you contract or something?

On another note, does anyone know when those speech bubbles between "milestones" and "view lines" gets unlocked, and what it is?

    Hip Check Video Guide

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 07:15 PM PDT

Thirteen one timer goals. Thirteen. This is not the way this game should be played.

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 06:09 PM PDT

Online matchmaking is a damn embarrassment. I am speaking not only on behalf of my opponent, but myself as well.

The only way we could both score in our game was cheap one timers.

This is the first time purchasing NHL since '17 and let me make it clear that I am amazed at how little EA has done to broaden the scale of this game into realism.

Ridiculous lightning speed one timers that are practically parallel with the posts, cheap puck animations that go through two defenders with four fucking eyes looking at the puck go right through their sticks, 4mph drifters that onetime past my oblivious keeper.

It's atrocious. It feels all too familiar. Thirteen times that happened in one game. That should not happen. Ever.

Found yet another glitch with Be a Pro mode

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 03:28 PM PDT

So it turns out that your pro's team doesn't have to be salary cap compliant, but the rest of the league does. I signed a $12 million contract for my second season, playing with the Oilers. I noticed the Oilers GM also signed Ovechkin for $7.5 million and Saad for $6.5, Pietrangelo for $12.5 and Grubauer for a little less than $4 million. Pretty much all the best free agents. I added it up and forwards have $62.3 million ($52 just for the top 6 alone), $33.4 million for defensemen and $8.5 million for goalies. So pretty much over $100 million for the Oilers.

I checked other cap heavy teams, and the Leafs are around $83-84 million, Boston is around $80 million.

I can't wait to see what top free agents the Oilers are going to sign next off season and how far over the cap they're going to go

    GM Connected League 2020 (PS3)

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 01:15 PM PDT

BLHL GM CONNECTED LEAGUE 2020 (PS3)
The Beaver Lodge Hockey League (BLHL) is a GM Connected league played on NHL Legacy Edition on the PS3. We have three divisions that range in skill level from highly competitive to super casual to ensure anyone can have fun and find a place in the community. We started the league just over 2 years ago and have since grown the community to over 100 members.
    WHAT IS GM CONNECTED?
GM Connected is a game mode released on old-gen EA Sports NHL games (2013), it gives users the ability to run a connected franchise mode where all 30 teams are controlled by human GMs. For 25 seasons GMs trade, develop and manage their franchise as they go through the ups and downs of running a real organization.
More info on GM Connected HERE
    DISCORD
The toughest part about playing in GM Connected leagues back in the day was the communication between GMs and the constant need to be behind a PS3 to manage your team. We have moved as many things as we can to an organized and functional Discord server. Everything from team rosters, trade blocks, game schedules, standings, free agency, and more are found in the discord server so you can manage your team from almost anywhere.
Discord is also where the community hangs out. The community is really what has made the BLHL so successful. We have an established core of members who have been around GM Connected and Franchise mode for years, know almost all the ins and outs of the game, and are always around to help out. They love this mode as much as anyone can, so when someone has a crazy idea to enter the player stats of every prospect and track player progression over multiple seasons, 10 guys hop on board for data entry. Let's not forget about the league banter and plenty of real league rivalries.
    DRAFT
The entry draft in GM Connected operates off of a draft priority list that each GM can adjust on the PS3 console before the game drafts down the list. We have taken this to the next level and moved the entire draft outside of the game, into the Discord server, before it's eventually held live on Twitch. We did this for several reasons.
    1. Lottery Odds - It allows us to control the lottery odds as the game only has a lottery for the bottom 3 teams in the standings. The lottery is also done live on Twitch with a real lottery ball machine. We are all about authenticity in the BLHL. Imagine the commissioner pulling the ball for your team and you just moved up 10 spots for 1st overall in the entry draft.
    2. Live Draft - There is nothing quite like stepping up to a virtual podium and drafting the player you've had your eye on for the better part of a season, or planning a draft strategy and getting that late-round steal. We also have a panel of analysts who know the ins and outs of NHL Legacy Edition through years of experience. After you draft, you'll get a live breakdown of the type of player you just drafted.
    TRADING
One of the most important parts of being a successful GM is trading. Good GMs have a plan in place and vision for their team but great GMs know how to negotiate with real people to build the team they need to win while keeping the future in mind.
    FULL 82 GAME SEASON
All games are played in the BLHL. GM Connected allows you to play games in any order in two week schedule periods, these schedule periods are advanced every 4 days. So you'll be playing anywhere from 3-8 games. Any games that do not get played are simulated by the schedule advance in the league.
    MEDIA COVERAGE
This is another feature that makes the BLHL unique. Trades, signings, and league news are posted to Twitter and Instagram where you will get feedback from over 1500 followers. If a big trade or signing goes down, you'll get news about it in the same place you get your other real-life content from. You'll also see highlights from the many streamers in the league and articles with things like team rankings, trade deadline coverage, or player/prospect rankings.
You can check this coverage out in the following places.
    Instagram
    Twitter
    Medium (Articles)
    Twitch
    Discord
    WATCH GAMES
Having the ability to watch around 50 games a week on Twitch is another feature that likely sets the BLHL apart from any other GM Connected league to date. With the ease of streaming in 2020, we have over 10 streamers in the league providing a ton of good content. Playoffs are when the league comes alive in terms of streaming as a lot of the most talented players also stream. This makes winning the cup that much more special because on top of winning, you get to share that moment with the rest of the community.
    LEAGUE CURRENCY
Celibacy points are the official currency of the BLHL. These hold no monetary value and can be used in a number of ways in the server including:
Sportsbook - During playoffs, you can use your balance to bet on games, and series wins. Odds are calculated with a basic model that includes player skill level, roster strength, and season statistics.
Bracket Challenge - Every offseason you can submit your bracket and compete against the rest of the community in a typical bracket challenge. The winner of the challenge usually receives a prize of some sort.

    WORK/LIFE BALANCE
The community is made up of real people with real things going on in their life. While the league is a big commitment (about 6-8 hours per week), we also do realize we all have a lot going on. That is why we have added things like a mid-season break, ample time to play games, and the ability to let others play your CPU. We want to make it as easy to manage as possible while also not moving too slowly as to get through seasons sooner rather than later.
WHAT YOU NEED TO GET STARTED
If this is something you would be interested in joining we would love to get you in on the action. You'll need the items below to get started.
    1. Join the Discord server.

    1. PlayStation 3 - If you still have one that is collecting dust, it might be time to fire it up again. You can also use PS4 controllers with PS3 so no need to go back to the old style. Online play is still FREE for PSN so there is no need to purchase anything.
    2. NHL Legacy Edition - This game can be found for cheap at local video game stores and can also be purchased digitally from the PSN store. It's an old game that has aged well but is generally cheap.
