For my goalie nerds. EA has added 59 goalies stances. Bauer Ultra Sonic gear (with the proper custom templates). CCM Axis gear, Vaughn V9 & Warrior G5. New sticks are True HX9, Warrior M1 & CCM Axis. All Bauer Supreme 2S goalie equipment removed from game (pads & sticks). No new custom helmets.

Uh what? #40 is a goalie with no feet and my guy is in a different team jersey

    Fanbase loyalty.

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 12:08 PM PDT

Is anyone aware if the local, regional and national fanbase loyalty grows or decreases over time?

For instance if on franchise mode I set my local fanbase to casual, will they grow to become hard-core if I do well?

Be A Pro Draft Mid 1st Round

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 12:24 PM PDT

I've seen plenty of post complaining about getting drafted by Rangers/Kings and I've also seen a number of posts where people intentionally tank and wind up 150th overall.

Has anyone found any success in getting drafted 5-20th overall or something like that? What kind of numbers did you put up and what were you doing in interviews to get that?

I'll play around with stuff as needed, but it'd be great to have an idea going into release of how to find that sweet spot draft position where it's not a lock what team you'll end up with.

Is the release at midnight (00.00) also in Europe?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 12:16 PM PDT

I didn't find the answer to release time in Europe. I wondered if the release is also here at midnight or later in the morning when it is midnight in the US.

I know the Rosters are lame right now but..

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 12:05 PM PDT

So I started a fantasy draft franchise last night and I feel that even with prospects not being on their teams and defaulted to the next years rookie class making it a "double class" is actually not that bad. Now if you want to control your actual team then it might kill your dream but fantasy drafts are still decent. Yeah it's a double draft but it's a double for every team. Just some encouragement for those who feel like franchise is ruined right now.

I know it's not ideal but it's not as broken as people make it sound. The draft literally just happened and the season is a good while away yet. This is like the one occasion where I will actually defend EA. The only way they could have had it figured out better by the time this trial started was by pushing the release date back which they were already a month or more later than usual so I understand why they didnt want to do that.

Also there is a lot to like about franchise this year. Yeah its mostly small improvements but I felt it was better in several ways and the new trade deadline/buyer seller status is really cool. Trade value seems much better where higher end players value is more noticable and 1st/2nd round draft picks have more value which they should.

Does Leksands IF (SHL) have jerseys with yellow colors in NHL 21? Does Väsby IK exist in Hockeyallsvenskan?

I want to know if they updated the Swedish teams at least to this year's game.. they didn't for NHL 20 haha.

Any news on when we could see a roster update? Release day?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 08:46 AM PDT

I was watching my buddy play the trial and it seems that all the players from the 2020 draft are yet to be added to their teams. I haven't been following much so I'm asking if they've said anything at all about a roster update in the next few days. I don't want to start my be a pro with Lafreniere still in the Q etc. Thanks.

Had a chance to play 21 pt2 gm mode

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 06:27 PM PDT

So gm mode is my favorite mode by far for 7 years. I always have fun playing it but here's some good some bad from the game that I noticed so far from doing an expansion draft to the cup being awarded

So for one thing no seattle kraken but hopefully they'll be in the game once you get the official release.

    Drafting is all the same.

But the main thing is that mini game at the trade deadline is A LOT of fun. I honestly had a lot of fun as its not like drafting where it pauses for a selection time is moving so you gotta move quick. Also you can't really cheese it. You have to get good players from sellers and picks from buyers all in all its a welcome edition to the game.

EA simulation weirdness is still there as Buffalo won the presidents with the default expansion roster (i could see maybe playoffs but presidents?) and Tyler Seguin is still simulation god

Also the coaches are still copy and paste skins in the game which makes me a little mad like come on I want brind'amour and trotz while seeing where Babcock gets hired.

Everything else is copied and pasted from last year

    First Roster Update

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 07:48 PM PDT

Hey guys. Obviously EA is in a weird spot here with free agency still going on when the game comes out so I do understand it'll take some time. But does anyone have any idea (or guesses) as to when we'll see this?

I had originally planned to use my 10 hour trial to make some type of accurate roster for myself until EA gets this going, but considering every players contract is extended a year (so FAs this year have another year, guys who's contracts will be up after this year will be up in 2 years) I don't see myself editing every single player in the league.

Kinda gives me no reason to buy right now. It'd be much easier to edit the rosters in 20 and just hold off until they release a update with more accurate rosters.

Just wondering what others thoughts are on this, and what others plans are on handling It until it's fixed.

Which is better: Be A Pro '17 or '21?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 10:43 PM PDT

Kind of a straightforward question. My most recent game is NHL 17 and I miss the "Live The Life" way it used to be. I also enjoy how "Road to the Show" runs in the MLB The Show series, which has a similar feel to LTL.

Be A Pro takes up the lion's share of my time in NHL, so a drastic improvement in BAP in '21 compared to '17 might make it worth getting the new game.

My Pre-Release Review of NHL 21

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 12:13 AM PDT

Hello, you may see the rant tag and avoid, but if you have not made the decision yet to purchase NHL 21, please stay and listen for a while

So as many of us know, NHL 21 is currently available for EA access (not sure of the release date because I stopped caring about this series in 19). I bring this up as I had just spent about 2-3 hours of my night playing this trial, and boy...was it something

So first of all, I barely played 20, like I probably played a good 2 hours and thought "this is 19 with slight updates franchise and new shooting animations". So I essentially skipped it

That said, I have been playing these games since NHL 12 (14 was and probably still is my favourite in that time frame, with 16 being a close second) so I'm fairly confident in my ability to review (rant but educationally) about this games

So let's start with HUT, its EA's favourite game mode, and pretty much no one else's. From what I could tell, HUT is pretty much the same as it has been...for the past 9 years. They usually just add one or two new ways to play HUT, but it remains mostly unchanged from year to year. But the new feature in HUT this year is HUT rush, which is NHL three's but in HUT, so its a lateral move, not really an improvement

I was never one for EASHL or much online play, but judging by the marketing, that is most likely unchanged as well. A majority of the online game modes (including the World of Chel) are super gimmicky. World of Chel is the only thing listed to change, they tweaked some of the ranking features and added end of season tournaments. I wont say they added free skate as that has been in the game since NHL 17 I believe, so its more or less a lateral move

NHL 94 rewind mode or whatever its called, is quite frankly an odd decision. I get why the mode was in 14 for the 20th anniversary, but I dont understand the inclusion of it as a pre-order incentive here, on the 27th anniversary. Either way, that's all it really is, a pre-order incentive, not confirmed as a stand-alone title (EA has not made any comments on if it can be purchased separately). If it isn't a stand-alone title, its a gamemode, and if it doesnt have online play (also not confirmed) it's a gimmick

Franchise mode is still a broken mess, but at least we got the trade deadline screen. Menus are still slow, simulation speed still takes forever, and trade logic for AI still doesn't work. I saw a photo on a different subreddit of Colorado trading Ottawa a 1st round pick for a 2nd round pick and a 4th round pick mid-season. Yep, that makes sense. Let's not forget that if you create a player and put them on your team, they become an instant 60 goal scorer because created players take an ungodly amount of shots per game, and have done so since the beginning of this console generation

The flagship feature of this release is the revamped Be A Pro, a live the life 2.0 (hmm...strange how live the life was created in NHL 14...same as the 94 retro mode...curious-if you can't pick up what I'm putting down, it took them 7 years to almost reach what NHL 14 did on lesser hardware). This game mode sucks. The menus are nice, but the conversations are lame and seem to have no real effect on anything, especially when you consider most of them have no changes associated and limit you to 2 choices.

From what it seems, if you even try to play the game decently, you always go to the Rangers or the Kings. The only thing Be A Pro offers this year that is in any way different, is a way to speed up your player progression, but even then its a very tedious process to even get to the purchasing of those stat boosts.

I just have a quick little blurb about the roster, it's bad, like really bad still, with the most egregious being Shesterkin, who's an 86 after playing 12 games. Yeah...only 12, Chris Driedger also played 12 and had better numbers but he's a 79. Shesterkin being an 86 places him one overall point outside the top 10 in the NHL, after only 12 games

And finally, the gameplay...its the same. Its literally the same, they added new dekes, but its the same. Same skating engine, same new contact physics, same poke checking and stick lift physics, same shooting animations, same everything as far as I can tell. It makes be a pro feel absolutely pointless, lile what's the point of having a deking engine thag whenever you play that game mode you lose the puck almost every time you try one? Its not even the difficult stick moves that do this, most if not all middle to high level hickey players can perform a toe drag, but in be a pro you lose it almost every time

But the worst part about how samey it feels is that the AI still doesn't behave like hockey. Has no one in this office seen hockey being played? Like anyone? Defenseman don't constantly skate back and forth behind the net when trying to break out the puck in the defensive zone. These AI defenseman in be a pro do it constantly. Why do AI players not shift around the ice when someone is out of position, they bunch up in the weirdest places making passes so ridiculously risky.

Why do defensive defenseman jump in and enter the offensive zone first, only to skate directly into an opposing player and lose the puck. Being player locked in this game is torture, you just skate around in open space and wait for the AI to make a pass, or call for it and get hit by a delay and they miss you by 5 feet. Or even worse, they have the puck and have a completely open chance at a breakaway if they skate straight, and they shoot the puck at the net before they've even created separation from the defense.

I still love how outcomes are somewhat predetermined, you can fight the system as hard as you can and beat it, but it is made unnecessarily difficult. In the memorial cup final my team was up 5-0 and the game decided to give them 4 straight simulation goals because of course it did, so I had to work my ass off to create plays with AI that constantly skate into other players just to save the game

TL:DR NHL 21 is almost identical to NHL 20, the "flagship" changes made to this game are not worth the price tag, be a pro barely works with how bad the gameplay is, franchise mode still has freakish glitches, and the online gamemodes are mostly the same

I dont know if its the developers or the publishers, but this game franchise is turning into madden, and its so disheartening because NHL has no reason for this version of the game to be bad, they arent making a next gen version so why does it feel like no money went into it.

If you're undecided, I hope this can provide information for you. I cant stop you if you really want the newest NHL game, but I'm happy to let you know what you'd be getting into if you didn't already know

Rant over, thanks for coming to my ted talk, and please be civil as I have tried to be (don't know how successful I was)

Edit: For people who are coming in offended, I want to clarify this is not meant to be an attack piece, this is meant to be informative for people. Since posting I have been informed on some things I was wrong about and have modified my opinion accordingly. Still doesn't change the intent of my post in trying to provide information for undecided people, if you really want this game, you can absolutely buy it, I won't judge you, but if you don't know that you want to spend 60-100 dollars on this game, I hope you take this opinion in mind when making thay decision

Why change the “Start Matchmaking” and “Dismiss” buttons?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 10:20 PM PDT

They are both such small and insignificant changes and I feel like the only thing they could do with this change is bother someone like myself in this case. Is it just to make the game more different than it really is from last year? Why bother?

If you hit the "A" button one too many times you'll accidentally start matchmaking even if you didn't mean to and if you don't notice you'll hop into a lobby before everyone is ready.

On the other hand, the standard is basically "A" is Yes/Accept and "B" is No/Decline. Why the change?

Insignificant observation on my part I know, I was just wondering if anyone felt the same.
