New Soundtrack for you Spotify listeners…

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 10:21 AM PST

Every year I grow tired of the NHL Soundtrack after about an hour, and long for the days when we had great soundtracks (NHL 2002 - NHL09). So I went ahead and made my own soundtrack on Spotify reminiscent of the music styles they used to include in the game. Just as the title says, a condensed thread that can help mods sift through our gripes.

Is there no 3v3 offline game mode?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 11:01 PM PST

Ignoring NHL threes™️, that arcadish nightmare of a game mode, is there really no other game mode to play a standard 3 on 3 game offline? I know there is for EASHL, but it would be awesome if there was one offline so that I can play with friends when they come over. I was under the assumption that there was such a game mode. Am I not browsing the menu right?

GUIDE - NHL 09 on PC.

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 03:23 PM PST

Hello. I've spent the past 5-6 hours trying to get NHL 09 to work on my PC and I'm finally succesful so I wanted to share a little guide on how to install it. (Yes, I know about '04 and the in-progress Wii '11 remake but I wanted the skill stick)

If you have any questions, feel free to comment here or PM me.

    Anyways, here goes.

    Step 1:

Get the game. It can be hard to find now but there are places to obtain it. The game iso is available on archive.org but you'll need a key to run it. Don't bother looking for one online. I'm not going to tell you where to get a key or key generator but the high seas are open waters.

    Step 2:

Install the game. Just go through it and install it to C:/Program Files (x86)/EA Sports/NHL 09 (default install path). You don't need the EA Download Manager so just skip it. You can also skip the sign-in screen for EA.

    Step 3:

This is where most people give up. The game will likely black screen and not launch properly. To fix this you need to enable V-Sync for the .exe file in Nvidia Control Panel (NOT Geforce Experience) or AMD's Catalyst program. However, this still didn't work for me and I kept getting a black screen. To launch the game, go into Nvidia Control Panel, on the left hand side select "Adjust image settings with preview" and change the value there from "Use advanced 3D image settings" to "Let the application decide."

I'm not sure what the equivalent is on AMD but it should be pretty similar.

I'm not sure why you have to do both steps in that order but that's what worked for me. If it doesn't launch the first time after u enable these settings, restart your pc and try again.

    Step 4:

Xbox controller on NHL 09 won't work but you can fix it.

If you're trying to play with an Xbox controller, the right stick and right trigger won't work and the button mappings will be all messed up. I am using an Xbox one controller with a wired connection and it's the same thing for wireless. The way I got around this was by downloading reWASD and setting my controller as a Playstation 4 controller. (This program only has a 14 day free trial so if there's free options out there for remapping, please let me know!!!)

    Step 5:

Start downloading mods. You can get updated rosters, widescreen support, arenas, jerseys, etc. online. There's lots of guides for that so I'll let you find them yourself.

Hope this helps! I went through hell trying to get this to work on Windows 10. There isn't much documentation online which is why I decided to write this.

    Updated Rosters

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 12:01 AM PST

Why the fuck haven't rosters been updated since The middle of December?! Have they just given the fuck up and started working on NHL 22? I feel ripped off, it can't be hard or tedious to do. Jesus Christ EA

What’s the difference between Team Name and Team Nickname?

I always make them the same name, but don't truly know what the difference is. Does anyone know the difference?

    Unlocking Legends in 3’s

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 02:51 PM PST

I've scowered the internet for this but to no avail. My friends and I enjoy playing some 3's against each other, and we have noticed that in the NHL alumni teams, many of the players are locked. Why are they locked? How does one go about unlocking them?

Franchise Mode - Natural Growth. How tf does this work?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 01:16 PM PST

I mostly play Franchise mode and I love this game, but there are aspects that absolutely baffle me. One of them is the entire prospect/player growth system. Morale growth makes sense as temporary stat modifiers. I think statistical growth makes sense based on performance in previous seasons. Does anyone know how in the world natural growth works? Even players I drafted in my first season (now in fourth season) that have been playing in the NHL show no natural growth on the Progress Reports menu. But, some of them have much higher overalls than when they started.

I really do think the Franchise mode in this game is great, but I wish stuff like this was more clear. Draft picks barely seem to hold any value because you don't have much control over player development. There are no explanations of how growth works, players eligible for juniors get put there whether you want them to or not, etc.
