A gamers reflection of the EA NHL past and its prospective future Posted: 28 Jul 2020 09:52 AM PDT Forgive the length of this post. I'm new to this subreddit and as a massive hockey fan, I wanted to indulge myself. I don't remember what my first hockey video game was. Most likely it was NHL Breakaway 98 for the Nintendo 64. It could also have been the beloved NHL 94. But time is ever elusive anymore. Hockey was implemented on me at an early age. My hometown has a minor league team and my earliest memories going to games with my Dad and I fell in love with the game. The speed, finesse and strength hockey players have astounded me. To the point where I wanted to play the game myself. Naturally, I would eventually get into the EA Series. I think 2002 was where I really got into the series and I loved that my favorite player, Mario Lemieux, was on the cover in my favorite hockey sweater of all time. I am guilty of missing the "old" days of the EA NHL series. 2002 and 2003 were hand in hand my favorite entries in the series. They are still my favorite to this day. From the hilarious banter between Jim Hughson and Don Taylor on commentary, to the animations of the early PS2 days from the years 2001 and 2002 respectively and let's not forget the AMAZING soundtracks of those days, these two entries into the series bring so many happy memories to me. I remember when NHL 2004 came out and there was a distinct change in the gameplay, where the arcade feel of the previous games were drop for an attempt to bring a more realistic simulation game to the series. I didn't care for it initially, but I eventually learned to appreciate and enjoy it all the same. Even during these times, the competitive series of NHL games were amazing. Everyone knows how the 2k series came and in many ways, was WAY more superior and insightful into their games that still hold up to these days. Not only do they hold up, but they had features that even the current generation of EA games struggle to compete with. From NHL Hitz 2002 and 2003, to 989 Sport's Gretzky NHL 05 and 06, there was a healthy amount of variety of NHL games in the market. And I wouldn't be the only one that suggests that it was the healthy competition kept the EA series in check. Which brings me to today. I will admit that this current generation of games has me feeling mixed about it. From a graphical perspective, these games now are amazing to look at. The presentation feels genuine and plenty of time and work went into creating it. But as many have claimed, it has stagnated. There isn't a heavy emphasis of innovation from game to game, but gradually across a single generation. And when you think something has been fixed or corrected, it seems to be gone by the next entry. I have no doubt that when this series moves to the forthcoming next generation of consoles, it will look amazing. Perhaps better than we anticipate. But will the innovation be brought back to emphasis? Will genuine player feedback be taken to consideration? I have no idea. I hope the Next Generation brings more to the table. I hope the focus is that it will be a commitment to ensure the first game will be the best yet. And I hope that one day, a competitor will be brought into the mix. EA is not the exclusive home of the NHL video game brand, as so many claim. For now, if it is in the game, it's in the game I suppose. [link] [comments] |

Game Crashes After I Create a Team Posted: 28 Jul 2020 08:23 AM PDT once I create a team, and go to save and exit it, the game just crashes every time, IDK if anyone else has had this issue and knows how to fix it but any help is appreciated [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 Jul 2020 06:52 AM PDT I feel like I'm asking something super elementary but I've been wanting this for a decade and never properly looked/found it. I'm not into HUT and I grew tired of seasons vs. AI every year the game comes out. Is it possible to find an online league through the game or other sites? Like Yahoo Fantasy, I just want to play a season in an online league with others. Does his exist? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jul 2020 08:21 PM PDT I goofed with the settings at some point and now all of my penalty kills last 2 in real life minutes. The rest of the period is on 4 minutes and I've looked all over the settings and cannot find how to change this. Any help would be incredibly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Newb needs advice RE: Strategy with re-signing a franchise goalie soon to be an RFA Posted: 27 Jul 2020 10:56 PM PDT I just traded for a Franchise goalie in the last year of his ELC. He's an RFA at the end of the year, and he doesn't want an extension yet. My thinking is I should give him whatever he wants for 8 years before his value goes up even more, but he's asking for almost $14M per year (its 2025 right now; cap almost $100M.) Should I do whatever it takes to get him under contract ASAP? Or exercise the RFA tag and negotiate after that? [link] [comments] |

AI speed and power is unfair in EASHL Posted: 27 Jul 2020 05:30 PM PDT Can someone explain how Slater beats my full energy 5'10 163lbs playmaker to the puck from the same distance? Or catch me on a clear breakaway? Also the AIs are tanks. If they breathe on you you're getting lit up and will most likely be injured. This happens way too often and is beyond unfair. Posted: 27 Jul 2020 09:04 PM PDT Hi all. I recently got Ea access and saw that nhl20 is included. I noticed that it says game trial though.. Does anyone else play this the full game through ea access or do you just get a few hour trial ? Thanks [link] [comments] |
[Franchise] New to the NHL games and hockey in general. How/when can I sign pending free agents? Posted: 27 Jul 2020 05:16 PM PDT Obviously I cannot sign them yet as they're pending. But when will I be able to sign them? And also, is there a way to keep track of a player to see if he re-signs a contract, or do I have to just manually keep checking? [link] [comments] |
What would the best player type be for me? Posted: 27 Jul 2020 04:33 PM PDT So I'd really like to be a player who's and can hit and fight and also be good at scoring and offense in general [link] [comments] |
