Can someone tell me why the Devs get all the hate but not EA's higher ups?

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 12:27 PM PDT

Most of the time I see ppl ragging on the dev team rather than EA itself. I feel bad for the devs honestly. No one wants to make a shitty game but the EA heads want money, not quality. In Franchise mode you can see ideas that that wanted to implement but weren't finished like the player preference or role changes. For player preference there is no player in the game that has the "Hold the line" preference and changing a player's role doesn't change anything like from "Grinder" to "PWF". These are good ideas but since the devs have fewer resources especially compared to Madden/Fifa and HUT is a priority for the EA business side , theses were left unfinished.

Now should the Dev team be completely forgiven? Nope. There are some things that made genuinely question their decision making. In one NHL game there was a bug where editing a player would increase their age out nowhere, another was when literally no one could fought each other, and currently a certain glove set is set to all black or missing textures, coach's face gets a black box over it, outdated player models (Kassian with a full head of hair? C'mon now), etc. Imo these are either easy things to patch up or high priority bugs that needed to be addressed.

But overall I do blame whoever is the decision maker at EA. So many good games ruined because of them and the dev team has no say. Mass Effect Andromeda? Rushed out with so many bugs and blandness. Star Wars? Microtransactions. EA doesn't care about game devs or their studios, all they care about is making a profit. I feel bad for them, no dev wants to make a bad game.

Is it the kid who tries to dive all the time while playing D or the kid who has to watch every cut away and replay?

this game is so fucking frustrating

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 08:32 AM PDT

so i'm still playing '16 (yeah, yeah) and not too long ago began a HUT. literally no one else on 16 so have to play offline seasons. i have a pretty solid team but just cannot fucking so anything. my league options are rec league, which is an absolute joke, bronze, but my whole team is gold aside from a couple high ranked silvers, and the superstar league. so, i play superstar. literally every single game goes the same way. usually tied at 1, scoreless or i have a 1/2 goal lead after the first. then usually a pretty contentious 2nd but sometimes the cpu starts to break it open out of no where. my goalie becomes absolutely useless. right now i'm in the middle of a paused game. i was up 2-0 in the first 5 minutes and was dominating the game well into the second. 8 minutes left in the game currently and i'm down 7-2. i didn't get overly aggressive on either end and i'm playing solid on both ends but they converted like 3 straight chances, none of which were especially dangerous. at the same time i'm absolutely dominating time on attack and setting up great chances that just meet a brick wall. this is getting so fucking old and i'm just here to vent. anyways i should probably get '21 once it's out and play real people rather than this bullshit. rant over thanks for coming to my ted talk

    NHL20 Franchise Mode - Line/Team/Staff Chemistry

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 08:02 PM PDT

I'm in a situation where i can't play online right now, so i play a ton of franchise mode and i was wondering how much line, team and staff chemistry play in team success and what's the best way to improve it? obviously line chemistry will be determined by coaching styles. but when it comes to staff chemistry, is it better to get 3/4 coaches of a similar playstyle (offensive, defensive?) and then build line chemistry off that? Will that improve team chemistry? I can never ever seem to get team chemistry above like 65%

My Feedback for this game franchise

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 01:47 PM PDT

I was responding just now to a post somebody made and ended up writing out some detailed feedback, please let me know what you think.

I am not happy with the leadership of the NHL franchise, but to give them the benefit of the doubt, they do have a smaller team of developers and designers, it's not like they could ever be on the same level as Fifa or Madden with a 5th of the resources.

Its just poor decision making from those in charged of the game, how they'll prioritize some stupid mascot playing mode or EASHL (whatever that is - I only play Franchise) or literally making a battle royale into the NHL video game (what was I saying?), over making the actual gameplay mechanics better.

I keep my expectations low, like maybe one of these years they'll change the animations for when a player goes into the box, it's been the same for at least 10 years right? Or maybe they'll make it so I can see my player skate by his bench and fist bump all his teammates (and it not just be a cut scene). Or maybe they'll update the group goal celebrations. These aren't resource heavy things they are just things you'd expect to be updated every few years but we will certainly not see anytime soon.

Personally, the big update I want is modern faceoffs, they should update the mechanics of how faceoffs are done a little bit and allow for wave outs if you don't position yourself properly, or maybe add a mini game of some kind for this. What about coaches challenges? Those have been in the actual NHL (you know - the league this game is based on) for almost 5 years now (I think?) but I just know that EA wont add those into the game for another 3 (if we're lucky) maybe even another 5 years from now. I'm also so sick of the annoying commentary, how repetitive it gets hearing how Ray Ferraro was "never on the ice" at the end of games and "scored 400 goals but only 4 empty netters" (i'm paraphrasing I've trained my brain to ignore this nowadays). They have James Cybulski as their play-by-play commentator and he's based out of Vancouver (the same city that EA VANCOUVER is based out of) so why can't they work on having more generic commentary? I'm sure it's possible to make it a bit less repetitive.

I also dream of a time where I can rapidly change lines on the fly without having to go into their clunky ass line editing settings during a game.

One positive thing I'll say, it's been slow but they've improved Franchise Mode (the ony mode I play as mentioned above) immensely the last 3 or 4 years.
