I have a bad feeling that “Improved Be a Pro” mode means “scripted, story based mode”

    Posted: 21 Aug 2020 04:55 AM PDT

That would be the final nail in the coffin. I (personally) hate the awful story driven content in games like Madden, for example. I really hope they flesh out the Be a Pro mode without forcing us down a story written by Sean and the gang of developers who have never played hockey before.

Just open up more leagues for us to play in, flesh out how BAP tracks stats and player development, let us see and track big milestones, add in fan/coach happiness etc. I'd love to be able to fight up from the ECHL or play pro in Europe for a bit after juniors. Or get selected to play in the World Juniors, Olympic style tournament, all-star games, etc

Maybe even keep it an open ended mode after you retire so you can be a GM in that universe after your playing days.

Anything. Just please, no awful story. I'm begging you.

So it can’t be Pastrnak, Panarin, or Mackinnon which is shocking. Left handed player. Any guesses? I’m going to go with Kucherov

Question about the game for a potential newcomer.

    Posted: 21 Aug 2020 08:39 AM PDT

I've been craving a good franchise mode in a sports game. I picked up MLB The Show 20 because it seems to be almost universally beloved but I can't bat worth a shit no matter how much time I spend in custom practice. I wanted to get Madden 21 but it seems like everyone is pissed off about it especially franchise mode. I was telling a friend about it and he recommended the NHL games. I don't know a whole lot about hockey as I don't watch it unless it's on in a sports bar. How is the franchise mode for a newcomer?

EA does not have exclusive rights to the NHL. Anyone can get the rights to the NHL and make an NHL game but no one wants to. Hockey games are niche and don't make a lot of money, why do you think 2K stopped making NHL2K? The only reason EA prolly still sells NHL games if b/c it's cheap to make ($60 roster update) and everyone will buy HUT packs cuz HUT is the most worked on mode. Nothing is preventing a company from making an NHL other than the lack of interest, that's it.

    Scouting Salary in NHL 20

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 08:25 PM PDT

So I always try to hire a higher graded scout with areas of at least 2 or more A+. It's been working out fine but sometimes I'll end up with a small surplus usually 30-40k from hiring and firing scouts throughout the year. The next year I just lose that surplus and I'll even have less than 20 scouts on the team.

Can I increase this salary budget in the offseason or something?

Idea to speed up menus/line changes

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 03:36 PM PDT

It sucks how have to field a proper roster after a game. That's not how the real world works. Currently, in the game I just finished, I had an injured player. I now have to edit my lines for some reason, even though I don't have a game yet. I spend 5 minutes editing my lines, advance to next game, oh look, someone comes off injured reserve. Fuck, I could've just used this player as a 1 to 1 swap in all lines. UGH, now i gotta do the lines all over again.

The idea is to allow broken lines if you don't have a game to play.

So I played randoms with a guy who has never played hockey and doesn't watch hockey but literally plays nothing but NHL and I found it pretty interesting so it made me curious
